Kechi Kansas self storage solutions

The weather in Kechi Kansas can be unpredictable. One day it’s bright and sunny, and the next, it’s cold, rainy, and miserable. If you’re getting ready to move to the Wichita area, you’ll want to check the forecast before scheduling a U-Haul truck to haul your furniture and boxes.

As we’ve mentioned, a clear day can make a big difference in productivity on moving day. But unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen. Read on for some tips for moving and dealing with inclement weather.

Looking to move soon? Consider the forecast first.

Watch the radar and postpone if needed – When preparing to move, you’ll probably get used to watching the weather on your phone, computer or television. If necessary, you should be flexible enough to reschedule the move. Even changing the date to a day or two later can help if things look like they might get icy.

Or, bump up the move to an earlier weekend when the weather’s nice. If you haven’t closed on your new house yet or the lease hasn’t started in your apartment, rent out a self storage unit at Store In A Wink, conveniently located in nearby Park City. By placing your items in a self storage unit, you’ll buy yourself some extra time to get the paperwork finalized on the new place. You’ll also be able to move a little bit at a time or get the essentials moved and wait until nicer weather for the other household items. It’s a win-win and a good way to beat the bad weather.

Protect with plastic – Buy lots of plastic bags and/or plastic tubs. If it’s raining on your moving day to the Wichita area, you’ll want to protect your things with plastic. Cardboard boxes won’t cut it! A bonus to plastic tubs is that they are perfect for long-term storage later. It will also help to put down plastic on the floors of your new and old home for people as they come in and out.

Designate someone to direct traffic – Rain, snow, cold, etc adds stress to an already stressful process. Choose one person to direct movers when entering/exiting the home to organize the flow and make it efficient. This can also help cut down on messy floors. Make sure to appreciate your movers, especially if they are helping you out on a nasty day. Small gifts, hot coffee, and some extra money will be welcome.

Tips for a summer move

Winter isn’t the only time for “bad weather” in Valley Center and the Kechi area, though. Hot, muggy days may make for less mess in the house, but they can still affect your movers and slow down productivity. Make sure the roundabout is full of water and ice before the big day.

Get started early – Try to plan for an early morning start to moving day. You’ll have the most energy in the morning and hopefully beat the afternoon heat.

Save money – Summertime can be more expensive to move. If you can take a few days off work, you may be able to save some money. Simply schedule the move during the week instead of on the weekend. In addition, a move on the 10th of the month may be cheaper than one on the 30th.

Need to store other items? We can help – Your household items may not be the only things to move. Here at Store In A Wink, we’ve got you covered with a mini-warehouse for rent and U-Haul truck rental solutions.
We’ve even got covered boat storage for your future summertime adventures on Lake Afton or El Dorado Lake. You’ll rest easy knowing our covered boat storage is near your new home.

Brief history of Kechi Kansas

Did you know that the City of Kechi is named for the Kichai Native American tribe? Yes, it’s true! The Kichai Indian tribe lived for a while in what is now modern-day Kechi when they fled Oklahoma during the Civil War. In 1871, the township of Kechi was formed, and, later, a train station was added when the Rock Island Railroad line came through.

Today, Kechi, Kansas boasts the Karg Art Glass gallery, a fun place to visit and purchase local artwork. The gallery is attached to a working glassblowing studio, where artists create masterpieces in glass for sale. Customers can also sign up for special events, such as making their own glass Christmas ornaments with the help of a glassblower.

In addition, theater lovers will enjoy the Kechi Playhouse. a long-running community theater in a stately brick building. You can’t miss it at the corner of Oliver and East 61st Street North!
